A major part of the buildings in this area have preserved its historical origins which makes it one of the most unique areas in the capital. In the district there are many streets which remained undamaged in WW II. Pre-war lamp-posts, sidewalks and blocks are notable features of the area.

Praga is the most “Warsaw part of Warsaw” with lovely cafes, restaurant, art galleries, small clubs, parks, and a beautiful beach. It has got a real unique feel.

Poland lies in a moderate zone with mixed continental and oceanic climate influences. The warmest areas of the country are the Silesian Lowland and Sandomierska Upland, while the “coldest pole” of Poland is the town of Suwalki on the north-eastern edge of the country.

Poland has six distinct seasons. Apart from the four typical European seasons, there are also two periods described as early spring and early winter.

It is useful to know that the weather in Poland is highly unpredictable and varied.

The summertime can be really hot, and winters tend to be really cold with the chance of snow from November till March.

During the autumn and spring, considered by many people as the most beautiful seasons in Poland, the weather is often changeable – you are likely to enjoy moderately warm temperatures from April to June and from September to October, yet there is always a chance of rain and cold days.

Public transport in Warsaw is well-organized. There are two underground lines called Metro, trams, buses and Fast City Train (SKM)

You can use all types of public transport with a valid single ticket or a valid Warsaw City Card. During the first journey the ticket should be validated immediately after boarding the vehicle. When travelling by metro, you should validate the ticket at the entrance gate before entering the platform, or in the validating machine available next to the lift. Tickets sale points can be found almost everywhere: kiosks, news agencies, shops, post offices or ticket machines which can be found also in buses, trams and trains.

There are several kinds of tickets:

  1. Time tickets (20-, 75-minute)
  2. Weekend tickets (valid from Friday afternoon till Sunday evening).
  3. 30-day tickets
  4. 90-day tickets

All students up to 26 are entitled to 50% discount tickets if they have a valid students document (student ID).

Your personal Warsaw City Card (WKM) 30- and 90-day tickets is a card with an imprint of your photo and personal data on the reverse page. In order to make the Warsaw City Card you only need to fill an application form in, attach a photo (3,5 x 4,5 cm) and submit them in one of the ZTM Passenger Service Centres. You can also fill an application in via website, unfortunately, only in Polish: https://personalizacja.ztm.waw.pl . The closest ZTM Passenger Service Centre is located near the Wileński Railway Station.
